Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter has been projected as a top prospect in April’s NFL draft. INDIANAPOLIS—The tragic and ugly aftermath of Georgia’s second consecutive national football title mounted on Wednesday as a police department issued an arrest warrant for Jalen Carter , one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL draft, for his alleged role in a January car crash that killed a teammate and staffer. Carter has been charged with reckless driving and racing by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for his role in the Jan. 15 crash that killed Chandler LeCroy , 24, a team staffer who was driving another car that was also carrying the other victim, Georgia football player Devin Willock , 20. Previously, a police investigation had characterized the incident as a single car wreck.
Two other members of the football program were injured in the crash, which occurred in Athens, south of the Georgia campus. The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Chandler LeCroy, was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. “We are all heartbroken and devastated with the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. “The entire Georgia family is devastated by the tragic loss of football student-athlete Devin Willock and football staff member Chandler LeCroy,” the school’s statement said. “Devin and Chandler were two special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program and our athletic department.
